How to Zen Up Your Bedroom with Art

Consumers today have more artworks and home decors to choose from than any other in history. We can buy traditional fine arts, pop arts, prints. Despite this abundance, many consumers might forget how to use artworks as a way to develop a harmonious environment for their spaces. Modern lifestyle, electronic equipment, erratic and stressful times make it increasingly difficult for us to find tranquility and relaxation in our lives. This is the reason why zen principles applied in interior design have increased in popularity and become a trend these days. Apart from choosing the right furniture, how do we apply zen when it comes to choosing the right artworks?

Zen is not a proper design style and does not come with a book of strict rules. It is often associated with minimalism, simplicity and purity of lines. It is rather a way of arranging your space and creating an atmosphere that offsets the stress and hassle. How can we achieve this goal with artworks? Consider these 10 simple tips to turn your space totally zen.

1. Be aware of the color of your wall

In Japanese, Zen refers to meditation. In interior design, it reflects balance, harmony and relaxation. If you want to go for a relaxed style in your bedroom, it is good to consider the color of your bedroom wall. A zen inspired wall is all about natural colours, in soft tones, such as white, grey, shades of beige or pink beige, which have the power to induce a sense of relaxation and calmness. Usually a plain color is good to match objects, art pieces or artworks of another favorite color of your choice. Many interior designers endorse the use of a restricted “limited” color palette of wall art as a way to develop coherent, harmonious, and personal feelings with a good choice of wall color. 2. Simple Color Palette Artworks

Take some time to consider the color palette of the artworks and how this can match the wall. It means the artworks can be using only a dark brown, blue or black pigment, plus white. This allows us to focus on Accenture shapes, degrees of light and dark in the artworks without the additional complexity of other color. Another method is to use a more contemporary monochromatic approach when choosing an artwork. It means using black and white, plus another color. This type of artwork is best compliment a wall of simple color that match the rest of the interior. Check out a few of the collections here for more examples.

6. Keep the Frames Simple

For frame there is the same word of order: simplicity. Keep the design of the frames to a minimum and do not exaggerate it and let the frame become the focus. It is highly recommended that you go to the local frames and get the artworks stretched. It is good enough.

7. Play with Soft and Natural Light

Place the artwork close to a source of natural light and avoid placing it in front of the door or a passage area. Or you can place different sources of light which will allow you to control the intensity and the areas of the artworks to be lighted. Avoid projecting a strong direct light from the ceiling. If it is close to the bed area, you might have a wall-mounted reading light. It is also good to try out the effects of diffusing the light on the artworks.

8. Allow Some Breathing Space

Make some space between the artwork and other objects. Clear the space around the artwork as you can and only let the artwork become the focus.

9. Eliminate Clutter

Just keep accessories and tchotchkes to a minimum or eliminate them altogether, as clutter can inhibit relaxation. Clear your room of as many items as possible and keep only the essentials, but feel free to add whatever may bring you extra comfort.

10. Go with Small Decor Items

The devil is in the details. If you hang a large wall art or a beautiful bed, it is better to place only small décor items to infuse into your own space. Last but not least, we believe that art is very subjective. There are no rules in design after all. Whatever you choose, just enjoy!
